Protect Our Coast is dedicated to preserving our 300 year heritage which began in 1699 on the banks of the Pascagoula River. Today we are blessed with the Mississippi Coast, unspoiled barrier islands, miles of pure white sand beaches, the pristine Pascagoula River, our bayous and marshes.  Natural wild life with endangered species, and abundant water life.  It is our mission to help with the balance of Business, Industry & Tourism with our heritage, and natural beauty for everyone to enjoy and preserve for our children and future generations. 

Balancing Act.....Creating jobs and expanding industries in National Defense, Ship Building, a huge Sea Food Industry, Petro-chemical and Oil Refineries, Tourism and 27 Casinos all huge components of our Economy. Yet the Permit-based discharges of Carcinogens and Toxicants are an issue. As  reported to the EPA, Local Industry's annual TRI (Toxic Release Inventory) Reports list 128 chemicals and heavy metals released  into the air, water, deep wells or hauled out of state. These discharges totaled over 27 million pounds of  various chemicals and heavy metals over the past 15 years....All of which cause cancer and other critical medical problems.  On a Per Capita basis,  these discharges place Jackson County is in the top 10% of 3,171 counties in the US.  By coincidence Jackson County is also in the top 10% for Cancer Incident and Death Rate for 3,171 counties in the nation.
